Book Review: "A Court of Mist and Fury"

Summary:

“Feyre has undergone more trials than one human woman can carry in her heart. Though she’s now been granted the powers and lifespan of the High Fae, she is haunted by her time Under the Mountain and the terrible deeds she performed to save the lives of Tamlin and his people.

As her marriage to Tamlin approaches, Feyre’s hollowness and nightmares consume her. She finds herself split into two different people: one who upholds her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court, and one who lives out her life in the Spring Court with Tamlin. While Feyre navigates a dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms. She might just be the key to stopping it, but only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future—and the future of a world in turmoil.”

SPOILERS ahead in case you didn’t read the first book of the series, “A Court of Thorns and Roses”!

I loved the first book of the series! It was kind of a reinvented “Beauty and the Beast” story, but with Fae. It had everything, but the moment Feyre decides to save Tamlin and goes Under the Mountain, it just gets amazing. And who didn’t love Tamlin, up until that point? But this book… This book really resonated with me and touched my heart in a way I hadn't felt for a long time... I was in a reading slump for some time and the moment I started reading this book, it was all I could think about and I wanted to read every chance I could. It made me forget about everything else and just be Feyre and imagine myself in the story.

To the people who look at the stars and wish, Rhys.
To the stars who listen - and the dreams that are answered.

Feyre is healing from her traumas of all that Under the Mountain and feels torn and completely alone, not knowing who she is anymore. But Rhys comes for her, as promised. He is patient and sweet and kind of arrogant at times, but he becomes her friend. Rhys shows Feyre Velaris and the Court of Dreams and she learns that not everything is what it seems. Her confidence in herself grows and she starts coming to terms with her new powers and this new life and family of sorts. Not only hers, but Rhy’s as well. In this book you really start knowing Rhys and everything he’s been through. All those years trapped in Under the Mountain under Amarantha’s control had its toll and he doesn’t think he deserves to be happy. But Feyre sees through all that and a beautiful friendship starts to grow and its development is so beautiful and enthralling… It is beautifully written, and their chemistry is amazing! However, these things never last, and a new evil starts to show itself, an evil that without her there is no stopping it.

He thinks he’ll be remembered as the villain in the story. (...) But I forgot to tell him (...) that the villain is usually the person who locks up the maiden and throws away the key. (...) He was the one who let me out.

I wish I had Feyre's strength and the willingness to see the good in everything; I really loved and connected with her. Actually, all the Inner Circle! They are amazing! Such complete opposites in so many ways, but they fit so well together!

Regarding spice levels, there is definitely enough to go around... Chapter 55 anyone? Rhysand is without a doubt a book boyfriend and I dream of Velaris…

There you are. I’ve been looking for you. - His first words to me.

This is one of my favourite books of all time and I can't recommend it enough!
